Hip Hop Beats Produced Using Simple Loops and Rhythms

What is a Trap Beat? A Trap beat is actually the original back piece of Trap Music, that is a segment of Hip Hop where the main rhythmic beat is played live on the audio track. Trap beats often feature randomly changing high frequencies, with a heavy presence of high pitched, mixed beats and a simple drum loop, but never a full song sample. Modern day Trap beats often feature complex sampling, a great use of reverb and usually an attempt to emulate the drum loop from a popular Hip Hop album. The most obvious difference between modern trap beats or old fashioned boom and lock Hip Hop and pop trap beats is their lack of a full song sample. Old school Hip Hop and pop trap beats use sampling from popular audio tracks, where they can be mixed, and altered by using various techniques and loop re-distributing tools.

Trap beats fall within a class of Electronic music called "trap", because the producer(s) apply certain rules and algorithms to audio samples and assign them specific pitch ranges, styles, sounds and tempo. If you want to make a full track beat from scratch then you need to be able to alter the sounds and tempo yourself if you want to make a unique and creative trap beat. Many producers make their own personal style of trap beats but many commercially available trap beats are already in a playable format for producers to use and modify.

Trap beats form a major section of the world of electronic music, often being described as a "edesist" of sorts. This term was first used in the late 90's by the underground Hip Hop artists. EDM, or Electronic Dance Music, is an umbrella term encompassing various genres of Electronic music. Trap beats are one of the many sub-genres of EDM. Traditionally, trap beats have been used by rappers and musicians who create hip hop beats as an aside effect of the recording process.

Trap beats are generally identifiable by a simple technique known as "melodic programming". Using a series of sampled vocals (usually of a female vocalist), the trap beat can be played in different ways. Normally the vocals are played in the left, right, and center portions of the audio track. By using this technique, complex rhythmic patterns can be created. A good example of melodic programming sound is the famous bass line used in countless Hip Hop songs.

A major part of producing great trap beats lies in using simple loops with great variation in rhythm and timing. Commonly used looping techniques include; using a digital audio workstation (DAW), sampling from a piano roll, looping, scratching, sampling from an analog source, or utilizing a combination of any of these techniques. Each of these techniques is effective in creating complex rhythmic patterns. For example, using a digital audio workstation (DAW) is an effective way to lay down complex rhythms and progressions that cannot be accomplished by traditional means. Sample keyboards (or drum machines) are also useful tools to achieve a similar result.

The production of trap music typically starts with a simple beat. It is then mixed with a variety of different instruments and vocals to create a melodic and rhythmic foundation for the rest of the tracks. Common trap beat elements include; sample drum beats, sampling from a guitar, vocals, and samples from other sources. Trap beats can also be mixed with other forms of hip hop such as sampling vocals from another hip hop song and reworking it. In order to make a trap beat, a suitable sample must be included.
